Air New Zealand announces multi-billion dollar investment in new fuel-efficient Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners - Air New Zealand is investing in their international network and customer experience by purchasing eight Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners powered by GE Aviation’s GEnx-1B engines.  These Dreamliners are set to join the Air New Zealand fleet in 2022 and have the potential to save 190,000 tonnes of carbon per year.

Air New Zealand opens a larger check-in at Tauranga Airport - Air New Zealand has opened a new check-in area at Tauranga Airport that is triple the size of its previous one. Over the last 24 months, Air New Zealand has worked closely with the airport on its terminal redevelopment programme. This includes opening six new self-service check-in kiosks, three self-service bag drops, a new premium check-in area and a new counter for passengers travelling with oversize luggage.

Air New Zealand and its customers have contributed $1 million to native forestry offsets - Air New Zealand and its customers have purchased more than $1 million worth of carbon offers from permanent New Zealand native forestry projects through their FlyNeutral programme, a voluntary carbon offsetting programme initiated by Air New Zealand.

Qantas reaches a ‘zero waste’ milestone - On 8 May 2019, Qantas completed the world’s first zero-waste commercial flight. A move expected to cut 100 million single-use plastics by the end of 2020 and remove 75% of the airlines waste by the end of 2021. About 1,000 single-use plastic items were substituted with sustainable resources such as plant matter and sugar cane pulp. Flying from Sydney to Adelaide, all products used in-flight during the two-hour trip were separated to be reused, recycled or composted.

Perth Airport new screening systems allow passengers to leave electronic devices and aerosols in bags - Perth Airport has launched a new security trial, which includes a new body scanner and an x-ray machine for screening carry-on luggage. The new x-ray system uses 3D technology, so passengers are able to leave aerosol cans, laptops and tablet devices in their carry-on luggage.

Accor Pacific expands ibis hotel at Sydney Airport - Accor Pacific has expanded its ibis hotel at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport by adding an additional 78 guest rooms, taking the total number of guest rooms to 278. The ibis hotel is within walking distance from the airport’s domestic terminals and a 15-minute drive to the T1 international terminal.

Qantas expands Brisbane lounge - Qantas has expanded its Brisbane Airport Business Class lounge to three-levels where it can now hold close to 400 people. The space comes with its own kitchen, offering a “premium hot and cold buffet” as well as a full bar with a barista between 7.30am - 11am. The new lounge also features a business centre, showers, wifi and a Sofitel service experience.
